Prep Enrolment

Wynnum State School supports the Early Phase Learning Philosophy that children need to be active and engaged in authentic learning experiences, through an inquiry based curriculum, with flexible planning that enriches and extends their multiple intelligences.

Central to our teaching and learning is the child. Each child is an individual and a member of our learning community. One or our theoretical thinkings is that four forces influence a child’s development; biological forces include all genetic and health related factors, psychological forces include internal, perceptual, cognitive, emotional and personality factors, sociocultural forces include interpersonal, societal, cultural and ethnic factors, and life cycle forces reflect differences in how the same event affects people of different ages and in different times.

Each child is a product of a unique combination of these forces. No two individuals, even in the same family, experience these forces in the same way. In order to value these characteristics and the early learning a child has experienced prior to school, a purposeful and strategic transition program is required to support a successful transition into formal schooling.

Throughout this transition process Ron van den Brande, Deputy Principal / P-1 Precinct Leader, and Lara Collingwood, Head of Student Support, will liaise with local Early Childhood Education Centres. Through shared practice, observation visits and provision of transition statements, the school will gather data in relation to the cognitive, social and emotional needs and interest of the children. This is to ensure a smooth and supported continuation of their learning journey, transitioning to formal schooling.

Enrolment packs are available from Wynnum State School, Executive Services Building, 81 Boxgrove Ave, Wynnum and can be mailed on request.
