Our goal is to provide the students of Wynnum State School with the best and most enjoyable music education possible through a quality instrumental music program that emphasises its focus on all aspects of playing an instrument through ensemble performance.
The opportunity to learn a musical instrument and be part of the instrumental music program is considered a privilege and is an extremely valuable tool in today’s life experiences.
Wynnum State School Instrumental music program is a selective band program in which:
•Students have the opportunity to learn woodwind, brass or percussion instruments.
•Students receive instruction on a group basis for 30 minutes once a week during class time. Attendance is compulsory.
•Students have at least two contact periods per week, one in an instrumental lesson and at least one in an ensemble rehearsal.
Rehearsals are before school and are compulsory for those in the program. Students are required to attend all performances during the year. Some of these are in the community and some are in school time.
For more information please read our 2021 Instrumental Music Information booklet.
Recruitment
Recruitment for the Instrumental program occurs in term 3 and 4 of year 3. Students are selected on their listening skills, aptitude in class and suitability on available instruments. Consideration of the balance of the band is taken into consideration when selecting the number of each instrument offered. The Instruments offered in year 4 include: flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and percussion.
Due to COVID-19 there will be no Instrumental Music Information session this year.
